Children’s Day School (CDS) is a co-educational preschool through eighth grade school serving over 470 students in the Mission Dolores neighborhood of San Francisco. Spanning two campuses, and home to a diverse community of students, faculty, and families, CDS is a vibrant learning community. In response to city and state guidelines keeping most students learning online, CDS seeks dynamic educators to support hybrid childcare programming. Reporting to the Extended Program Director, the teacher is responsible for providing all day care of our learners in grades K-6 allowed on campus, as well as the support of their online home learning programs. CDS is located on a beautiful, secluded half-acre in the Mission near Dolores Park. Our after care program employs the use of indoor classrooms, environmental ed. kitchen, wood chips area and climbing structure, farm and garden (featuring four chickens and two sheep!), and a play yard among the largest of independent schools in the city.


The position is full-time and temporary, expected at least through mid-October.

Daily schedule is 8 am - 4:30 pm Monday – Friday (hours may vary slightly).


  • Team: Collaborate, inspire, support, problem-solve and communicate with after school team members and the school day teachers.
  • Activities: Plan and implement exciting, child-centered after school clubs and special events. Supervise snack, free play and program transitions.
  • Children: Provide a safe physical and emotional environment for all students. Encourage children to take initiative to solve problems. Help children think, investigate, ask questions and laugh. Strive to meet each child’s individual needs.
  • Families: Collaborate with families toward their child’s success.

The successful candidate will:

  • Support students’ online learning
  • Create and lead popular and engaging activities.
  • Have experience teaching or leading youth activities.
  • Demonstrate the ability to take initiative, work passionately and joyfully, and collaborate effectively with colleagues, students and parents.
  • Model behavior and language that supports our mission and our program.
  • Display excellent rapport with children and families.
  • Display excellent classroom management.
  • Express the desire and ability to take on increasing responsibility in the classroom and the CDS community, and to participate generously.

  • Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Work effectively with children, families, and staff of diverse backgrounds and family structures.
  • Communicate and problem-solve with the school day teaching staff about students and families.

Educational Requirement/office skills

  • Have at least an associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent credit
  • Be proficient in technology: email, word processing, photos, etc.


$19-22/hr. Depending on education and experience. 40 hours/week. CDS offers paid holidays in adherence to CDS policy and sick leave pursuant to the minimum requirements stated in Labor Code §245 et seq. CDS will contribute to SF Medical Reimbursement Account (SF MRA) pursuant to the program guidelines.  Benefit eligibility may be considered if position duration exceeds 90 days.
