2017-2018 Fifth and Sixth Grade Spanish Teacher

We are seeking an experienced, talented and energetic Fifth and Sixth Grade Spanish teacher for the 2017-18 school year. The ideal candidate will bring rigor, middle school and subject matter expertise, impeccable communication skills and passion to our program. Most importantly, the candidate will prepare and inspire all students to be lifelong language learners.

The ideal candidate should possess the following skills and qualities:

  • An unwavering commitment to middle school students, parents, colleagues and the community
  • Enthusiasm for the opportunities and challenges inherent in working with middle 
school students
  • Willingness to model professional and ethical standards and strong interpersonal skills when dealing with 
students, families and colleagues
  • The desire and ability to contribute to student and community life inside and outside the classroom
  • A commitment to professional development, social justice and multicultural education
  • Strong grasp of the Spanish language as well as the culture and community within Spanish-speaking countries
  • Deep understanding of second (or possibly third) language acquisition
  • Ability and willingness to differentiate instruction
  • Ability to integrate theory with practice in designing and implementing appropriate 
learning strategies for each student
  • Serve as a homeroom teacher
  • Advise 10-12 students (prior training in Developmental Designs is desired but not necessary)
  • Lead or co-lead an affinity group
related to race/ethnicity, family structure, gender, religion, sexual orientation or other aspects of identity
  • Participate in an overnight environmental education trip
  • Perform duties as assigned
  • Write narrative reports for all students
  • Maintain contact with parents
  • Participate in parent/teacher conferences

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Two or more years experience working with middle school students
  • Teaching credential and/or master’s degree preferred
