School Receptionist

Children’s Day School (CDS) is a co-educational preschool through eighth grade serving over 470 students in the Mission Dolores neighborhood of San Francisco. Reporting to the Director of Extended Program, the front desk receptionist works as part of a front desk team to provide high-level administrative support to the school. As the first person faculty, staff and parents often see and turn to when they have a question, it’s important that you are a problem solver, quick thinker and maintain a cheerful disposition. This position is on a school year calendar (summer and school breaks off) with health, retirement and paid vacation benefits.


Monday – Friday, 9:45 AM to 6:15 PM (mid-August to mid-June)

General Responsibilities

  • Greet students and visitors warmly and professionally
  • Maintain organized, welcome front reception area
  • Answer phones and direct calls
  • File student accident and illness reports
  • Other administrative duties as assigned
  • Provide general first aid to students as needed

School Day Responsibilities (9:45 a.m. - 2:45 p.m.)

  • Assist with student lunch distribution
  • Assist with maintaining and ordering supplies/Amazon Business account
  • Assist with compiling and communicating budget reports
  • Assist with attendance management

Extended Program Responsibilities (2:45 - 6 p.m.)

  • Manage aftercare activity attendance
  • Help facilitate student pick up
  • Coordinate childcare for CDS events

Experience and Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal skills as well as a great sense of humor
  • Strong commitment to building a learning community where the people, culture and curriculum reflect the racial, ethnic, economic and family diversity of San Francisco.
  • Ability to take initiative, work passionately and joyfully, and form effective partnerships with teachers, administrators and parents.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality
  • Flexibility with a cheerful disposition
  • Possess dynamic problem-solving skills and be able to handle ongoing interruptions with grace and ease
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with MS Office Suite
  • Organizational skills and the ability to multi-task at a high level
  • Able to work occasional nights and weekends for special events
